2011 Chenin Blanc, Jurassic Park Vineyard, Santa Ynez Valley $25
Back behind Curtis Winery in Santa Ynez, lies a vineyard surrounded by oil derreks. The vineyard also has a block of Chenin Blanc planted over 30 years ago.
This is not your Mom's Chenin Blanc. The wine was fermented in older French oak barrels for 5 months. This is a bone dry version with notes of citrus, white pepper, nectarine and light spice. (135 cases made)
2011 Grüner Veltliner, Paragon Vineyard, San Luis Obisbo County $25
In 2011 I found a vineyard outside of San Luis Obispo growing Grüner Veltliner, one of my favorite food friendly wines. It is most widely planted in Austria and only a tiny amount is found in California.
I fermented the juice in older oak barrels and stainless steel creating a wine delightfully bright and citrusy with notes of white stone fruits and pear. (125 cases made)
2010 Chardonnay, Solomon Hills Vineyard, Santa Maria Valley $36
This is our 5th vintage from this special site located just south of Santa Maria. The vineyard is located on the far western edge of the Santa Maria Valley AVA which means it is also one of the coolest in climate, keeping the wines fresh with natural acidity.
The 2010 is a flat out great wine. The wine underwent partial malo-lactic fermentation. This wine has great structure and shows hints of the older oak barrels it was fermented and aged in. This is a beautiful, food friendly wine that will continue to refine itself over the next 3-5 years. (47 cases made)
2010 Pinot Noir, Kick On Ranch, Santa Barbara County $37
After a couple of years not making Pinot Noir due to the crazy high prices of fruit, I started up again in 2010 as the pricing became more reasonable. There lies a small vineyard on HWY 135 west of Los Alamos that is planted to the 115 clone of Pinot Noir. It is an ideal location as it is ultra cool and the soil is very sandy.
The wine is an elegant version of this often over-extracted grape variety. Gorgeous notes of rose petal, light berry, spice and cola fill the glass. Enjoy. (125 cases made)

2006 Syrah, White Hawk Vineyard, Santa Barbara County $37
As many of you know this vineyard is one of my favorites. It is on the cooler side of the scale when ranking Santa Barbara County vineyards. Our blocks of Syrah are at the upper reaches of the vineyard, which was once an ancient sea bed.
This wine was made entirely from the Estrella River clone of Syrah. It spent 21 months in barrel (1/5 new) and was racked once – at bottling. I added SO2 to half of the barrels mid way through elevage. The aromas remind me of light pepper, blackberry spice, coffee and cream with flavors of roasted meats, licorice and light toasty oak. Will age well for another 3-5 years. (300 cases made) TANZER 90(+) PTS
